GAMELAN AS A UNESCO INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE

The good news today comes from UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The United Nations agency in charge of education, science and culture has designated gamelan as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

As Indonesian people, I warmly and proudly welcome this appointment. Gamelan has long been part of the daily life of people in various regions in Indonesia, continues to be studied, developed and passed down from generation to generation. Gamelan also inspires and influences world music.
